In design technology, we have been planning a 'cold dish' and a 'hot dish'. For our 'cold dish' we had a choice of preparing a fruit salad, or a salad. We then planned our dish by deciding on the fruits or salad we would use and the utensils we would need. We also had to consider safety when preparing food. It was great fun and some of us tried fruits that we had not tasted before. We would love to make a fruit salad at home, so let us impress you.
It is so lovely to see you all after the Easter break! We all worked really hard last term and I hope after a much deserved break we are all ready and keen to work very hard this term! Our new topic is a really fun one 'I Do Like to be Beside the Seaside' the children already seem really enthusiastic about it- helping to create our new lighthouse book corners! With June fast approaching, when the phonics screening is taking place for your children, please make the most of your new Espresso log in and explore the phonics section in Key Stage 1 under the English section. It has video clips that show and say the sounds for you and games for the children to play to really develop their phonic skills, which in turn will help them with their reading and writing. Thank you for your continued support!
In maths we have been learning about fractions. Finding out that a fraction is part of a whole. We used resources to practically find halves and quarters.
In English this term we have focused on the features of information texts and alliteration. We have enjoyed putting together our very own information book all about the seaside and creating our alliterative poems.
Our science learning continues to develop our knowledge of plants and seasons. We are excited to see the seeds we planted early in spring growing well in our garden area. We are taking care of them by watering regularly and taking out the weeds.
RE this term has introduced us to the ways in which other faiths and religions are celebrated and we have been learning about Moses.

In Autumn term we followed instructions to create our own jam sandwiches. We used time conjunctions to make sure our instructions were in the right order.
In maths we have learned to name various 2D and 3D shapes. We have used straws to construct 2D shapes and have begun to explore their properties.
When we were looking at instructions we also created our very own fruit faces. We were inspired by the artist Archimboldo.
In English we role played the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. We thought about what each character might say when Jack brought home the magic beans!
In Science we have been looking at 'Animals including humans'. For one of our lessons we went on a bird walk around our local area. We saw swans, magpies, parakeets, pigeons, crows and even a woodpecker!
In English we looked at the story 'No Dinner' we role played different scenes from the story. First we pretended to be the different animals who wanted to eat the poor old woman. Then we acted out the part when the old woman ate so much food and became really fat!
