Reception - Rio Class
Summer Term
We have had a brilliant summer term, it has gone by so quick and luckily with some lovely weather. This term we have looked at 'People who help us' and 'Animals'. The children enjoyed both of these topics. On reflection we feel so proud of the Maths and English that they have achieved this term. Thank you so much for being a wonderful reception class and we hope you all have an amazing summer holidays. Good luck in year 1!
Topic - People who help us!
This term we loved looking at a variety of jobs and how people help us. We were so lucky as we had a visit from a firewoman who told us all about how to keep safe at home. She was so kind as she let us try on some of her uniform. We also had a visit from a nurse who told us all about the heart and how it works. He also told us about how we need to keep healthy.

PE - Sports day
Lots of our PE lessons this term were focused on sports day practise, we started off a bit rocky with staying in the lanes but they soon picked it up. The children were so incredible in every race and made us all feel very proud. Thank you to all your support on sports day this year I m sure you will agree is was a brilliant morning.
Spring Term
We have had a great spring term looking at Dinosaurs. Dinosaurs have inspired us through our maths, PE, art work and through our self led play. Every week we have been reading different books all about Dinosaurs including 'The Dinosaur that Pooed the Planet', 'My Favourite Pet' and 'All about Allosaurs'. We are hoping for beautiful weather across the summer to spend lots of time outside.

Maths
Dinosaurs have influenced our maths work greatly over this term. We have used them in our counting, adding and number bonds. We also spent some time thinking about the size of dinosaurs, first we estimated how tall we thought the Dinosaurs would be using cubes. We then built a tower to measure the size of the Dinosaurs.

PE
We have used our bodies in many ways in PE this term. We visited a variety of different Dinosaur kingdoms where we had to climb over trees, we also had to run away from the T-rex's who were trying to eat us. The Easter Bunny also visited us in PE. They set us the task of crawling through the rabbit tunnels and protecting the Easter eggs. We loved all the different adventures we had in PE this term.

Autumn 2
Thanks for a wonderful Autumn 2 together Rio. 'Toys' has been our topic this term. We have been looking at old and new toys, what materials all are toys are made from, how we use toys and so much more. As it got closer to Christmas we have been celebrating and learning about Christmas. Rio class has looked at so many amazing books this term from 'One Newt in a Suit' to 'I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas' and not forgetting 'Father Christmas needs a wee.' We hope you and your families have the best Christmas and holiday together. We are looking forward to the start of spring term.

Maths
In Maths we have been looking at addition. Using our topic we looked at toy bears and thought about giving them treats. We used a dice to roll a number, we then rolled another and tried to add them together, this was the amount of treats a bear would get. We worked really hard on understanding addition.

PE
This term, as you know, has been hard as Covid has once again affected the school. Unfortunately for us that meant we were not able to use the hall. We have been trying to use the outdoor area as much as possible. Using bean bags and hoops we have practised our fine motor skills, throwing and catching and balancing. Some days though have been too cold to venture outside for PE so we started to learn a dance for Christmas.

Autumn 1
Welcome Rio Class! We have been so excited for you to start your big adventure at Jubilee primary School. It might be a little bit scary for some of you but do not worry we have so many exciting things ahead of us this term. This term we are looking forward to hearing all about your families and all the things that make you different! We can't wait to make lots of memories with you.

Topic Brainstorm
Autumn 1 term topic - 'Dare to be Different'
Maths
In our first term we have been impressing our teachers with our counting. We have also been looking at more than and less than. Already we are counting to ten and understanding quantities. Great work!

PE
We always love PE on a Monday. We have been looking at traditional games like 'Ring a Ring a Roses' and 'Duck, Duck Goose.' Learning how to take it in turns and encourage our friends have been key! We have also looked at 'We're going to find the Monster' by Malorie Blackman; an author that we have been looking at throughout Black history month. We sailed over the shimmering ocean, climbed over the huge, high mountain and even hid in a cave. See if you can spot what we are doing in each the photos.
