Welcome to Year 4/5 SYDNEY class!

Term 4

As part of our English lessons, we have been reading the book called "When the Mountain Roared" by Jess Butterworth. In the story, we get to know about Ruby a girl in the book who moves to India from Australia and we get to see how she copes with the move and experience the fantastic views of the Himalayan mountains. From reading the boook, we learn that the leopards living up in the mountains are at risk from poachers. So as part of our English lesson we created conservation posters to remind people that we need to save and protect these beautiful leopards.

In our English lesson we had a go at creating a layered art work of a forest. We had so much fun creating these!

In our PE lesson we had to work as a group to write down clear and detailed instructions for another group to follow in order to find a cone that we had hidden. We called it a game of treasure hunt!

In our SMSC lesson we learnt about celebrating our SUCCESSES and noted down 7 successes into our books, which we made into a bunting and decorated.

We did some fun world book day activities!

This term Sydney class as been learning Cricket and are getting really good at it!

Term 3

In English, we have been learning all about Meerkats and had a go at creating Meerkat art.

We brought out our acting skills and acted as Meerkats!

Sydney Class went on a trip to the Imperial War museum! We got to see and consolidate some of our learnings about war from term 2.

In computing, we had a go at coding using Mirco:Bits!

Our topic for term 3 is wild world. In SMCS we learnt about the effect of plastic on our environment.

Term 2

Sydney class loves to read! Here you can see us making great use of our library slot to read for pleasure and in great comfort too!

In English, we created our own posters recruiting women for different job roles during the war.

In English we had a go at creating a musical lyric about love and war!

In our art lessons we have been looking at different art styles and learnt about collage, we then had a go at using different materials to create our own collage.

In Sydney Class, we created poppies for Remembrance Day.

Term 1

Sydney Class reviewed our Maths learning so far this half term and worked in groups to solve addition, subtraction, multiplication and division questions.

 

In Sydney class, we have been learning all about electricity and we had a go at making products such as traffic lights, Christmas card and torches using what we have learnt so far about simple circuits.

In science, we made simple circuits using wires, batteries, battery holders, light bulbs, light bulb holder and our knowledge of circuits.

In English, we learnt about the Blitz in ww2 and had a go at building our own Anderson shelter. 

In SMSC, we learnt about how to show respect to others and designed respect posters as a group.
