Year 5/6 - Helsinki Class

Welcome to Year 5/6 and HELSINKI class!

Term 3

In art, we have been working with watercolour and attempted to replicate some famous artists.

In computing, we looked at coding, we began by investigating and experimenting with some coding software...

We then moved onto using this software to influence and code the hardware. In this case we used Micro:Bits. They're like tiny little robots that we can programme to do our bidding!

In our English lessons we wrote a non-fiction text about meerkats and as part of that we created abstract art.

Pretended to be meerkats!

And even met one!

Gymnastics and dance!

For Children's Mental Health Week we tried to discover how we could look after our own mental health and did activities that we could always rely on to make us happy.

We have conducted various experiments, here we were trying to make blood!

And here, we were replicating the human digestive system!

We investigated shapes in maths...

And scales and measurement!

We went to the Imperial War Museum!

We also wrote a narrative, trying to convey atmosphere by focusing on the Legend of Crab Phare! Here, we were making art to show life both above and below water simultaneously.

Term 2

We've had a busy term. We've made collage in art.

At Christmas, we baked sweet and savoury snacks.

We have acted in English...

And made music!

We have explored light in science...

It was very illuminating!

Term 1

We were lucky enough to be visited by The Dogs' Trust, who taught us how to be a dog's best friend.

As part of our English, we have been reading Warboy and how the author lived through The Blitz. We learnt about Anderson Shelters and decide to build our own.

While watching a French animation called Beyond the Lines for English, we discovered an old suitcase in the school. After building up the confidence to open it up we discovered a treasure trove of ancient artefacts including real medals and helmets from World War 2.

We learnt to play Happy on glockenspiels.

We used our knowledge of circuits and their components to build a product.

We looked into understanding what makes a healthy relationship and what to do if we fear we may have an unhealthy relationship with friends.

We presented to the class about RESPECT. Why we should show respect and why we should expect respect from others.

We created a timeline so we could get a greater understanding of when, in relation to now, the events happened that we have been looking at in our history lessons.
